Mahina-A-Rangi

My story

Welcome to Maimiti Designs! All of the products you’ll find here are handmade by me, Mahina. I grew up spending much of my childhood helping my mother with her weaving, which naturally led me into creating my own jewellery.

Inspiration comes from many different cultures and energies — including Native American beadwork traditions that influence some of my designs. I use high-quality beads and natural stones, while always aiming to keep my pieces as affordable and accessible as possible.

MY PROCESS

Bracelets are one of my newest additions to my shop. Each bead is hand picked then handwoven to form the Pikorua - the twist, path of life, DNA. Piko, is the fern frond, the beginning, Rua means two. Knotting is a form of healing and protection in many cultures. Migramah dates back to the 13th century, from the middle east. Later when it moved to Europe it was later then called Macrame. I love to weave around each bead until it forms a whole piece and makes the stone stand out. The process is quite beautiful and to help give Aroha (love) energy for the good of all.
